Garrett ACE Metal Detector Series

The Garrett ACE metal detector series is Garrett's coin, jewelry, and relic detecting lineup, running from the entry-level ACE 200 up through the ACE 250, 300, 400, and the multi-frequency ACE Apex, each adding more discrimination and frequency control than the model below it.
Every garrett ace metal detector in the current lineup shares a family resemblance - visual target ID, adjustable discrimination, and accessories aimed at park, beach, and relic hunting - but the tiers differ enough that picking the right one matters more than brand loyalty alone.

How the ACE Tiers Relate
At the entry end, the ACE 200 and ACE 250 keep things simple: electronic pinpointing, a handful of search modes (All Metal, Jewelry, Custom, Relics, Coins), and accept/reject discrimination without a numeric target ID readout. Step up to the ACE 300 and you get a digital target ID on a 0-99 scale plus iron resolution for separating targets in trashy ground - genuinely useful once you're hunting sites with a lot of junk metal. The ACE 400 keeps that same digital ID and iron resolution approach but adds iron audio (hearing iron trash before you dig) and adjustable frequency to cut interference, which matters more at crowded sites or when hunting near other detectors. At the top, the ACE Apex replaces the single adjustable frequency with Multi-Flex technology - a choice of 5 kHz, 10 kHz, 15 kHz, 20 kHz, Multi-Frequency, or Multi-Salt modes - plus Z-Lynk wireless audio and a Viper searchcoil, making it the most adaptable machine in the family across different soil and target conditions.
Which Tier a Shopper Should Want
A first-time detectorist hunting local parks and yards doesn't need the Apex's multi-frequency flexibility - the ACE 250 or ACE 300 covers that use case without paying for features that won't get used. Someone hunting trashier sites, old homesteads, or areas with a lot of iron junk benefits from the ACE 300 or ACE 400's iron resolution and iron audio. Anyone who hunts a genuine mix of conditions - dry park soil one weekend, wet sand or mineralized ground the next - is the target buyer for the ACE Apex, since that's exactly what Multi-Flex and Multi-Salt modes are built to handle.
